Wiltshire began filling in an 18 foot canvas at the Pratt institute, Brooklyn on Monday October 26th.

Wiltshire, diagnosed with autism at the age of three, displays an unusually powerful photographic memory that he has applied to rendering city scapes. He can look at the subject of his drawing once and reproduce it accurately with photographic detail, down to the exact number of columns or windows on a building. He memorizes their shapes, locations and the architecture.”

They go on to note:

The core WolframAlpha site will always be free. This is one of several “premium” experiences that the company will offer in addition. The app is targeted at the most serious users, and is priced as such. Likewise, we feel that the app’s egonomics and speed make it well worth the investment.

I can only assume they mean “ergonomics” there, but we’ll forgive them for that Freudian slip.

http://twitvid.com/B1351 - 30 seconds (well actually 60 this time) on the Manhattan Bridge, New York, NY #30secs

http://twitvid.com/B1351 - 30 seconds (well actually 60 this time) on the Manhattan Bridge, New York, NY #30secs

As It Might Have Been

Mr John Leighton devised a system to prevent passengers from being taken for a proverbial as well as a literal ride [in London Taxis]. Leighton, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, published a scheme to divide London in a number of hexagonals, specifically aimed at preventing overcharging by cab drivers.

"You are losing control of your message by inviting customers into a dialogue and that could be..."

““You are losing control of your message by inviting customers into a dialogue and that could be problematic if they criticise you,” says Arun Sundararajan, a professor of information, operations and management sciences at New York University.”

- BBC NEWS - Business

"All of this highlights perhaps the most crucial difference between Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx:..."

“All of this highlights perhaps the most crucial difference between Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx: While Daft Punk have not budged from an image established in the late 1990s, have released only three studio albums over the past 13 years, and have been mostly coasting on the success of a record from 2001, Basement Jaxx have never been still for long, and seem entirely unafraid of failure. They are constantly striving and experimenting, and when you’re brave enough to take artistic risks, you’re bound to turn out a dud here and there. All of Basement Jaxx’s missteps to date have been noble in ambition and easily forgiven when you take into account that the same impulses that produce an awkward misfit of a song like “She’s No Good” also yield the glorious house psychedelia of “Raindrops”. Basement Jaxx may not have a strong brand identity, but their eagerness to toy with their formula and broaden the emotional range of their material is truly inspiring, and sometimes that matters much more than being popular and influential.”

- Lessons on Design (from a dance music record review) Pitchfork: Basement Jaxx: Scars

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2009-10-11)

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2009-10-11):
